Bitmap advantages

If we compare them to vector images, bitmap images have some advantages. For example:

  • They’re easier to create, as pretty much any image editing software can create them.
  • They’re widely supported - it’s just a grid of pixels, so any software that can display images can display them.
  • They’re the only real way to store photos and other images which aren’t made up just of flat shapes and solid colours. Vector images are made up of shapes, so they can’t represent things like photos of the real world.
  • They’re better for images with lots of detail, like photos.
